  • Happy April 20th

So for those of you who know or don’t know, today marks the 21st anniversary of my return home from Desert Storm.  In the first few years this occasion would be marked by quiet reflection or a note I’d write and put in a file.  Over time I realized more and more that it made much more sense to instead contact those positive people in my life and thank them for being there.  People are, after all, the only reason really worth doing anything.

I’m sure I missed some people off this list.  No matter how many times I try to update it someone has always changed an email address.  And it seems like every year I have to take one off because that person is no longer with us, which happened again this year.

For those of you here though, now, I thank you for being there, and for having been there.

  • April 20th – It was twenty years ago today…

So many of you have seen these emails before, for some it is new.

Long story short, today marks the 20th anniversary of the day I got home from Desert Storm.  Every year since then, I’ve used this day as a moment of self-reflection, and as a time to recognize a few things.  Overall, my life has gotten more complicated and more stressful, although I suppose that’s true of most, and I certainly can’t complain.  What keeps me going every day, however, is the people in my life, who I encounter in person, over the phone, or through a passing email of facebook message, or just through a pleasant memory from time to time.  Of all the things I’ve ever done, the one thing I wouldn’t trade is the group of people I met along the way.  I am amused, inspired, uplifted, and motivated by at least one of you every day.  And for that I thank you.

    Here’s to another twenty…

    Hello all.

Some of you are seeing this for the first time, some of you have gotten these for years, in all cases bear with me.  Today marks the 19th anniversary of my return from Desert Storm.  It is a day I set aside every year to reflect on the blessings of my life, which to my point, is mostly the people in my life, whether I see them every day, only on holidays, or only saw them decades ago.  I am what I am today because of those I have known, and so again, or for the first time, thank you for being in my life, one way or another.  I am truly a blessed individual.

Today marks the 18th year since I came back from Desert Storm.  It is a time of year when I try to stop and take a moment to thank everyone in my life really just for being there.  I am, truly, one of the most lucky people I think to have ever existed, and the bulk of that comes in the form of the peole I have met (or been related to) along the way.  I do sometimes still tear up when I think of all the people in my life, and just how cool so many of them are.  So then, thank you for everything.  Whatever your part has been, I’ve treasured it.

    Hello all,

For those of you who have gotten one of these before, yesterday you were probably asking yourself, “Hey, how come I didn’t get an email from Steve yesterday?”  Long story short, had Nat’l Guard, needed some email addresses I didn’t have, blah blah, it is a day late.  Besides, that means this year it isn’t on Hitler’s birthday.

For those of you who haven’t gotten one of these before, April 20th marked the 17th anniversary of the day I got back from Desert Storm.  Since then, every year, I like to take a moment and thank all the people I have in my life who all make it worth living.  So, thank you.  I do a lot of things in my life that are a whole lot better because of the people I grew up with or met along the way.  And that would be you.

    Thanks all.
